When you're living and working in alignment with your purpose, it's much easier to be successful because you're doing what you're meant to be doing.
Not only will following your purpose make you happier and more fulfilled, but it can also lead to increased wealth and abundance. So if you're wondering how to make money from your life purpose, know that it is possible!
At the end of this article, we will show you exactly how to discover the professional purpose that you can use to increase your income.

How to Find Out What Your Purpose Is In Life and Work
In the video below, I show you exactly how to apply 3 simple steps to define your purpose. Below the video I've also summarized the process for you.
Answer The Purpose Clarity Questions in Step 1 and 2
Apply the Professional Purpose Formula To Craft Your Purpose Sentence
Step 1: Questions To Find Your Purpose
When have you felt the most alive and energized in the last year?
Your energy and excitement are one of the biggest indicators of what your passions are. If you can identify when you feel most alive and energized, you can start to understand what brings you joy and fulfillment.
(ex. Leading friends safely through the mountains, leading a 5-day workshop for Peak Performers, getting married )
What did you love doing when you were a kid that you stopped doing?
Often, as adults, we forget about the things we most enjoyed as kids because we get bogged down in the mundane details of everyday life. However, taking some time to remember what you loved doing as a child can give you some clues about your true purpose in life.
(ex. Building sandcastles, playing with legos, getting muddy… really muddy)
What themes do you see consistent during these experiences?
For example, there are consistencies between experiences that energize us as adults and things we most enjoyed as kids.
For example, if you loved spending time outdoors as a child, look for the intersection of outdoor activities you now most enjoy. These patterns will give you some clarity and ideas about how you most enjoy spending your time.
(ex. Leading large groups of people, getting dirty in the outdoors, building things
Can you think of a way to make a living from these experiences?
If you can build a career around your purpose, you will find true success and fulfillment. But if you can't think of a way to make a living from your experiences, then perhaps your purpose lies elsewhere.
If you look at the experiences that you most enjoy, your natural skills and strengths, and the things that make you feel most fulfilled, you can start to get a sense of what career or business opportunities leverage your purpose in life.
(ex. Adventure guiding business, selling a new book, leading conferences and seminars with 1000's of people, leading adventure retreats, running small group events, creating a blog)
What global problems am I passionate about?
There are so many large problems on our planet that need confident men with clarity like you to step up and help solve them.
Make a list of 1-3 large global problems that you are passionate about. Within these problems, you can begin to see how your skills and strengths can be used to have a positive impact on a cause that is much larger than yourself.
(ex. water quality and distribution solutions in Africa, the American hunger crises in highly populated cities, the global work fulfillment crises)
Step 2: Clarifying Your Skills and Passions
There are two things to clarify in this section, your skills/strengths and your passions. You can pull these from some of the answers to the questions from step 1 that you just completed.
- List 2-3 of your unique strengths and skills
(ex. Leader, process-oriented, adventurous, communicator, compassionate, inspiring, creative, expert skier, )
- List 1-2 passions or ways you enjoy expressing your skills and strengths.
Ideally, these are not primary flow activities like skiing, but secondary like writing, coaching, speaking, and teaching.
If your world was perfect right now… how would people be interacting, what would people be doing? Describe your perfect world in one sentence.
Ex. Everyone is joyful while doing work and things they "love" to do with their time.
Step 3: Combine Parts 1 and 2 To Write Your Purpose Sentence
Combine the parts from 1-3 into a single purpose statement. Example purpose formula to follow:
My purpose is to use (strength/unique quality 1) and (strength/unique quality 2) to (action verb 1) and (action verb 2) (who it helps) to (major cause bigger than yourself).
You'll notice that this purpose formula pulls unique information about you from your responses to the questions in step 1 and step 2.
If you'd like a guided, step-by-step explanation of how to define your purpose, I suggest watching the video that we've included above.
Personal and Professional Purpose Sentence Examples
Here are a few good examples of how you might craft your personal and professional purpose statements using the formula from step 3:
- To use my skills as an adventure guide and my knowledge of the mountains to lead people safely through the wilderness and help them connect with nature.
- My purpose is to use my leadership skills, process-oriented mindset and passion for adventure to guide and empower high-performance teams and individuals to discover meaningful work and the life of their dreams.
- My mission is to be deeply present, enjoy creating opportunities, and lead myself and others to new levels of potential every day.
- To bring opportunities for meaningful work to every person on the planet.
- To create clean water resources for every person on the planet.
Do I Have The Right Life Purpose?
A couple of indicators will help you know if the life purpose you have defined is the right one for you.
Here are a few things to consider:
- When you think about your purpose, do you feel energized and excited?
- Do you feel like your statement is something that is authentically YOU?
- Is it huge?
- Is it world changing?
- Is there a cause bigger than me behind the purpose?
